With demand for cosmetic surgery on the rise amongst men, what are the most sought after procedures?
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reported a third of its members had seen an increase in enquiries from men seeking virtual consultations last year.
Whether it’s due to lockdown, career progression, social media or the fading taboo surrounding men getting cosmetic surgery; more men appear to be interested in procedures.
So, let’s take a look at the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for men in 2020.
Rhinoplasty
Coming in at number 1 is rhinoplasty, or a nose job as it’s more commonly known. When striving for facial harmony, the nose tends to be the cause of imbalance being at the centre of the face.
What’s more, the nose is typically the first facial feature people notice.
So, it can have a real effect on self-esteem. From being shy to preventing lifelong goals, insecurity has a far-reaching impact on both your everyday and life as a whole.
Nose jobs are an increasingly common procedure where the nose is altered. This includes reduction, reshaping or using implants to enhance certain areas of the nose.
A nose job is available in two options - open or closed rhinoplasty.
An open rhinoplasty involves a small incision between the nostrils.
A closed rhinoplasty is where a small incision is made inside of the nostrils, allowing your nose to be altered for either medical or cosmetic reasons.
The sections of the nose that can be treated are the:
- bridge - by removing cartilage and bones to reduce or remove humps or lumps
- tip - which can be lifted, lowered or reduced by removing cartilage at the tip of your nose
- overall length - which can be shortened by reducing the septum
- width - where the nose can be widened by breaking the bridge of the nose and having the pieces arranged further apart
Eyelid surgery
Eyes, like many other parts of our body, can show signs of ageing. Eyelid surgery, also known as eye lift or blepharoplasty, is a procedure performed to remove excess skin and fat deposits in the eyelids. Being the second most popular procedure for men in 2020, eyelid surgery offers the chance to achieve a younger and fresher look.
Ear correction
Otoplasty, or ear correction, is a procedure used to change the shape or size of the ears, or have them pinned back.
The surgery usually involves making a small incision behind the ear from which the doctor may remove some cartilage. Stitches will then be done at the back of the ear in order to reshape or reposition the ear.
Breast reduction
Hormone imbalance or obesity can cause gynaecomastia in men which results in breast tissue growing. A breast reduction is an effective way for men to achieve a firmer and flatter chest.
The surgery usually involves:
- Cutting around the nipple
- Using a scalpel and/or liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue
- Nipples may need to be repositioned
Liposuction
To remove unwanted fat and achieve a more sculpted body, many men have chosen to have liposuction. It’s a versatile procedure as it can be performed across many areas of the body including cheeks, chin, upper arms, neck and the areas above the breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.
