If you’re going to take the time, invest the money and board the plane to get a hair transplant, you’ll want to know whether it’s worth it.
And by that we mean whether it’ll last.
You’ll be pleased to hear that results are long-lasting and considered permanent.
But what does that actually mean?
Types of hair transplant
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)
FUE is the more modern procedure.
Hair follicles extracted from the back of the head are made into grafts and placed onto the area where the patient is experiencing the hair loss. With no need for stitches and a quick recovery, this is the less invasive option.
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant)
FUT is used for more advanced hair loss.
A strip of skin is taken from the back of the scalp to harvest the hair follicles. These hair follicles are then inserted into the balding areas of your scalp.
Your surgeon will determine which procedure is best based on the level of hair loss.
What does a hair transplant look like?
Since both procedures use your own hair follicles, the hair that grows will match your own hair, behaving and looking the same way.
Natural-looking results are possible, but only when choosing an expert surgeon. Everyone’s look is unique and a highly-trained surgeon will tailor the transplant to you.

How long does it take to see results?
In the first two to eight weeks some of your transplanted hair may fall out. Don’t panic, this is normal, it’s a natural part of the hair growth cycle. With the right aftercare, healthy hairs will begin to grow again.
After about 6 months the new hair will start to appear, with the full effects of a hair transplant usually seen after 12 – 18 months.
Are the results lifelong?
A hair transplant is designed to be long-lasting. Hair follicles are taken from those areas that aren’t prone to hair loss. These follicles retain their longevity when moved to the balding area. So, in most cases, the results will last a lifetime.
It’s important to keep in mind though that everyone is different and guarantees can’t be given as age, lifestyle, level of hair loss and hair type can all impact transplant results and timelines.
Will you need more than one hair transplant?
You may need just the one or you may need several sessions. It can depend on the size of the area and the result you have in mind.
If the area of the scalp is large or if you’d like a fuller look, multiple sessions may be required.
During your free consultation with one of our specialists, you’ll be assessed on the number of grafts needed.
