Choosing the Perfect Cosmetic Surgeon for You

Choosing the Perfect Cosmetic Surgeon for You

If you’re looking to get cosmetic surgery, your very first step should be finding the right surgeon for you. Cosmetic surgery – which can help you regain confidence in your body – has all too often left many displeased with its results at the hands of the surgeon.

Though infectious social media marketing makes it look so easy, choosing your surgeon can be the most difficult (but vital) part of any surgical procedure.

1. Keep an Eye For Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeons

A certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery is required before a medical surgeon can practice in the field of plastic or cosmetic surgery. This is the result of several years of preparation and successful completion of all ethical and surgical tests and examinations.

Always ask if they are Board Certified to conduct cosmetic surgery, as this can dispel many reservations you might have.

2. Ask Questions To Verify The Surgeon’s Experience

Cosmetic surgery requires delicate care, and a variety of skills which are essential for the success of a procedure. You can imagine the complexity of a nose lift, or facial restoration, for example. Operations that deal with bones, skin, and blood circulation to the treated area.

Some cosmetic surgeons may have a long history of working exclusively on implants and tummy tucks. That said, you probably wouldn’t choose this surgeon to perform a liposuction procedure on you.

Asking the right questions can break the ice and save you a whole lot of time. Here are a few questions you’ll probably want to ask.

  • How Many Times Have You Performed This Procedure?
  • How Long Did You Train For?
  • How Long Have You Been A Plastic Surgeon?

3. The Surgeon Should Ask You Relevant Questions

Medical doctors who are experienced in the field usually interview their patients, asking relevant questions about surgical history or health-related issues in order to provide the safest and most efficient experience for you.

Additionally, it’s important to analyse the explanation and response that he/she provides you. Surgeons who are ethically qualified will reflect on possible dangers, and not agree to a procedure that may prove dangerous to you.

4. Verify The Credibility of The Surgeons Medical Facility

Cosmetic surgery is usually performed in centres approved by medical or state authorities.  This means that there are certain standards and regulations that have to be met before these facilities are allowed to carry out any operations.

Accredited medical facilities are usually associated with the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), or the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

These associations are also excellent markers of high-quality healthcare services, so keep an eye out for them.

Additionally, consider these questions:

  • What kind of technology is required for my surgical treatment?
  • When did this facility receive its accreditation?

5. Go With the Aesthetically Wise Surgeons

Before choosing a cosmetic surgeon, take a close look at his/her previous operations on clients, in order to get an idea of their aesthetical sense.

Professionals with many years of industry experience should provide their before and after samples for your validation. To be sure you’re on the same page, ask things like:

  • Can I see before and after photos?
  • How long will my surgery take?
  • What is my recovery time?

6. Pay Attention To Staff Care and Treatment

Beyond the quality of the procedure itself, the state of your chosen facility and the staff employed there should also be a consideration.

You may wonder how the staff and facility will treat you. A fantastic staff team will make you feel at ease, warm and secure, which is essential for a long stay in any health care facility.
